SEKAI NO OWARI at MTV WORLD STAGE MALAYSIA [12th Sep 2015]

As we reported before in SEKAI NO OWARI press conference, their performance indeed was also part of the highlight of MTV World Stage Malaysia 2015. As one of the biggest music night in Southeast Asia, MTV World Stage brought not only SEKAI NO OWARI, but also Malaysia local star, Stacy, and international artistes such as Jason Derulo, Carly Rae Jepsen and Apink. As MTV World Stage was recorded live for global telecast, the event hashtag #worldstagemy top trended in Malaysia and trended in Singapore, with an estimate of over 100 million social impressions within a day (Sysomos).

Along with the fellow artistes, SEKAI NO OWARI delivered explosive performances to a live audience of nearly 20,000 people gathered at Surf Beach, Sunway Lagoon on Saturday Night, 12 September 2015.

SEKAI NO OWARI appeared on stage with all white costumes, exactly the same costumes from what they wore in the press conference before.  Inspired by the costumes from characters in Tokei Jikake no Orenji (Clockwork Orange), they performed their top five songs flawlessly. SEKAI NO OWARI is completely  ready to take their originality and imaginative shows to music fans all over the world!

Kicking off the performance with “ANTI-HERO,” SEKAI NO OWARI made their MTV World Stage debut to thousands of fans, excited to see them perform for the first time in Southeast Asia. ANTI-HERO itself is probably the song that made them big in South East Asia nowadays because it becomes the original soundtrack for the live adaption of the live adaption movie, Attack On Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) that was aired recently worldwide. Continued by Mr. Heartache, the melody from Nakajin’s guitar and Saori’s piano echoed throughout the venue along with Fukase’s soft vocal, not to forget the party atmosphere was all around because of DJ Love.

Before the third song, DJ Love greeted the audience with his Malay greetings. He talked with a very nice Malay accent as well, saying that he ate Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice), Sate (chicken satay), and Cha Kwetiaw (fried noodle). He also added that the food he had in Malaysia was really delicious, “Sangat sedap!”

The night became even hotter when this Japanese band’s third track, “Death Disco”, giving both musical and visual sensation for fans, with mesmerizing 3D laser orbs lighting the stage in tandem to the band’s unique musical expression. It is not everyday fans can enjoy this treat from any artistes and with such amazing light play, the band got wilder on stage.

However, the band calmed down in the fourth song, S.O.S. This song is their latest song which PV was just released on 17th September this week and also became another soundtrack for Attack on Titan 2. Fans in Malaysia must be very happy when the band sang this song as this is the latest song to be performed first time outside Japan! Before S.O.S was performed first time in their Twilight City concert in Nissan Stadium. With deep and meaningful lyrics about ignorance, fans were hypnotized and performed hand wave throughout the entire song. It was a really touching moment when Fukase ended the song. SEKAI NO OWARI transported fans to another world with an ethereal rendition of “SOS”.

They’ve mentioned that they will bring only one Japanese song, but it was still a surprise that they even sang Dragon Night in English version for the closing. During Dragon Night, the last song of their five-track set, the band upped the ante with its pianist playing an accordion and adding a banjo to their unique instrumental mix. It was really an upsetting part when they finished performing and went off the stage with only five songs nevertheless they managed to liven up the crowd brilliantly. A top notch artistes indeed!

And btw, if you missed the show or you want to reminisce last weekend then stay tuned with their performance only in MTV! The show will premiere on MTV in Asia on Saturday, 26 September at 1.30pm (TH/WIB), 2.30pm (PH/SG) and 3.30pm (MY), Saturday, 10 October at 9pm (JP) and Sunday, 11 October at 12am (KR).
